Forest Hill Towers Status Report:

Please check back here for status updates about the fire at Forest Hill Towers in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

 
 
Occupancy Date - Updated Monday, March 8th, 2010:
  • We are being advised that the building should be ready for full occupancy of the east and west wings at the beginning of June 2010 however, we are working with the contractors/authorites to determine if the unaffected west wing apartments can be occupied at an earlier date, once building common systems (elevator, life safety, etc.) have been reinstated. We will provide an update on this website as soon as further information is available.
  • Tenants who lived at Forest Hills at the time of the fire and wish to return to the building, should indicate their intentions by contacting the property manager, Jennifer Ball by phone at 506.459.5959 or via email at jball@killamproperties.com.
  • All other persons interested in securing an apartment at Forest Hills should apply by contacting our Fredericton office at 506.459.5959 or by obtaining an application from this website.
  • Tenants in occupancy at Forest Hills at the time of the fire will be given priority.

 

General Update - Friday, February 5th, 2010:
  • Water and electrical services have been restored.
  • The restoration and renovation of the common areas and affected units have been awarded and construction is underway.

Apartment Units - Content Removal:

The insurer's adjuster has advised they require contents to be removed from all units in the east wing in order to facilitate the restoration of the apartments. The units located in the east wing are as follows:

Basement floor to 9th floor

Units with numbers ending in 11-20 (i.e. 911-920, 811-820, etc..)

 
Access for Essential Items:

For those tenants who were not able to access their units on Thurs & Fri, Sept 10th & 11th or require a second visit for items that were missed, please contact the Forest Hill Towers staff at 506.452.1971 to arrange access for 10-15 minutes accompanied by a Killam staff person. Items considered to be essential are: money, passports, insurance documents, jewelry, medicine, eyewear, clothing, cell phones and electronic devices deemed safe by the electrical inspector, etc.

 

Move Out of Full Apartment Contents:

To arrange a move out of full apartment contents, furniture, etc. please contact (or have your insurance adjuster contact) our building staff at 506.452.1971 to book a date and time. Scheduling is requred to ensure you will have exclusive access to the stairwell and entrances being used for moving during your scheduled moving time.

 

Mail Delivery:

Canada Post has advised that effective Friday September 18th 2009, tenants of Forest Hill Towers should pick up their mail at the main postal station in Fredericton located at 570 Queen Street. Tenants can also request a temporary change of address to have their mail delivered to the location where they are living temporarily or to another convenient location. Canada Post has advised that this change of address service is provided free of charge. Tenants can contact the customer service number at Canada Post at 1.800.267.1177 if they have any questions.

 

Tenant Insurance Adjuster Access:

All tenants are advisted to contact their tenants insurance adjusters to report this incident. Tenants insurance adjusters can contact the Crawford, building's insurance adjuster, to arrange for immediate access to the unit.

Security Deposits:

Please contact the Rentalsman at telephone number 506-453-2557 to arrange for refund of your deposits.

 

September Prorated Rent:

September rents prorated from September 09 - 30 will be refunded by cheque to each tenant. These cheques will be available for pick up at Killam's Fredericton office - 181 Parkside Drive - on Thursday, September 17, 2009. Tenant's will be required to provide identification.

For all tenants enrolled in Killam Properties Inc PAP (pre-authorized payment) system, these PAP's will be cancelled effective October 1, 2009 until tenancy is re-established.

Post-dated rent cheques for October 1, 2009 forward will not be deposited.

 

Bell Aliant has contacted us to ask that we pass along their thoughts to our tenants and have made the following offers to ease the transition into your temporary accommodations.

  • When the residents move into their temporary locations and reconnect their Bell Aliant services, Bell Aliant will waive all service charges related to the move. (savings of $30.00 - $95.00)
  • When the residents reconnect their Bell Aliant services and subscribe to the Bell Aliant Whole Home Value Package, Bell Aliant will provide the first month free. (savings of $99.00)
  • When the Forest Hill Towers is ready to be re-occupied Bell Aliant will look at other initiatives to help the tenants in their transition back into their homes.
